And based on all that: what is my “What if” – the creative premise from which the story unfolds? It’s a strange experience to reflect on all this in writing, especially when the story already exists in my head (and partly on paper). But I’ve found that the process is incredibly helpful in gaining a sharper sense of what the story is truly about at its core. And as I do this, I notice how the story in my mind begins to shift – becoming more precise, deeper, and at the same time lighter, because it’s free from unnecessary baggage.
