In terms of [[Element X ✅]], their brains differ from human brains in four specific ways: - **The Intuition Lobe:** A specialized extension of the medial prefrontal cortex and temporal social-processing areas, fused into a fast, holistic “social intuition module.” Ksall’i instantly feel what the socially correct action is, even when rules are unspoken, ambiguous, or situational. They do not analyze; they sense alignment. - **Harmonized Reward Circuit:** A highly stable dopamine–norepinephrine regulation loop between prefrontal areas and the ventral striatum that strongly rewards the completion of expected tasks and socially agreed actions—rather than novelty. Ksall’i do not require structure, motivation, or excitement to act; they simply do what the moment calls for, calmly and consistently. - **Selective Empathy Buffer:** An emotional-gating mechanism in the anterior insula that automatically filters empathic resonance. And finally, as in all tribal societies, they face the problem of inbreeding, making the exchange of mating partners necessary. To solve these problems, the [[Species - Ksall'i ✅]] rely on other pillars of social order: 1. **The [[Salivar Convent]]:** To facilitate negotiation and peaceful agreement between communities and subcultures, the convent assembles delegates and leaders from all regions, families, and factions in a deliberation assembly. This convent is quite uncomfortable for [[Species - Ksall'i ✅]] because they cannot rely on their usual intuitive sense for what is appropriate. Therefore, it is highly formalized, extremely polite, distant, and ritual-heavy to avoid open conflict. To make things more complex, there’s a layered culture of social roles, traditions, and conflict smoothing mechanisms that selectively allow bending and deviating from the rules that must seem extremely confusing for anyone not introduced. As a consequence, delegates are taking the role for decades, the convent is slow in decision-making, favors consensus over conflict, and historically developed a pattern of being more veto power than shaping power. While individual Ksall’i communities and factions rarely rely on written law, the Salivar Convent is the opposite: it is run based on a complex, extremely detailed, and carefully balanced traditional document that outlines rules of procedure in a casuistic way—the [[Salivar Code]]. 2. **The trade faction [[House Lethan’arin|Lethan'arin]]:** To facilitate the exchange of goods without requiring intense interaction with people from other subcultures, the [[House Lethan’arin|Lethan'arin]] family established a dense network of trading routes and markets across the continent, giving them a special position in the empire. On the one hand, they possess more intercultural knowledge and interest than any other family or community, naturally valuing novelty and diversity more than usual. This makes them natural candidates for cross-community leadership—they have the connections, the logistics, and the ability to tolerate differences. Due to trade, they are also extremely wealthy and have access to resources other communities can only dream of. On the other hand, they are carefully monitored by all other Ksall’i and remain under constant suspicion of breaking continental harmony. As a consequence, they are powerful—but their power is fragile beneath the surface, making them highly pressured to uphold a perfect [[Species - Ksall'i ✅]]-like image of the family. 3. **The central research entity and knowledge repository [[Thirak’arin]]:** As generation, accumulation, interpretation, and storage of knowledge are, by definition, activities that benefit from intercultural exchange, these tasks are handled by the specialized subculture of the [[Thirak’arin]]. Located high in the [[Thalan’oruun]], the [[Thirakon]] fortress–university–library is run by a monastery-like order. To control the power of this institution, they are not allowed to reproduce; instead, every family and community is expected to send their brightest minds to this place of learning, research, and technological ingenuity. While they welcome members from both [[Thalan'sir]] and [[Hal’thalan]] Arins, they formally belong to [[Thalan'sir]] and ask former [[Hal’thalan]] to formally disconnect from their families. 4. **The engineering and infrastructure clans of the [[Silparin’i]]:** As every aspect of continental logistics, construction, and mechanical craft requires extremely precise alignment and long-term continuity, these tasks are entrusted to a federation of hereditary clans (“Arin’i” in [[Etral'han💭|Etral'han]]) known collectively as the **Silparin’i**. Each clan specializes in one foundational domain of engineering—mining, metallurgy, atmospheric measurement, long-distance transport, structural tension, water systems, machinery, or preservation. Their knowledge is transmitted exclusively within bloodlines, preserved through ritualized apprenticeship and exact imitation rather than innovation. While formally subordinate to the [[Salivar Convent]], the Silparin’i form a powerful consultative body whose expert approval is required for nearly all large-scale decisions. Cultures are usually patriarchial, some matriarchial, but always with a clear division of gender roles. #### Subculture: [[Thirak’arin]] The knowledge and devotion order of [[Thaksir]], forming an academic and spiritual elite and the only Arin that is not based on kinship, but choice. High adherance to spoken word and music, a certain level of interest and tradition to travel and explore (for [[Species - Ksall'i ✅|Ksall'i]] standards). Cultures are neither patriarchial nor matriarchial, but dyadarchial (from [[Dyadarchy]], i.e., rule of the two gender diade), so Arins are governed by bigender couples. #### Subculture: [[House Lethan’arin|Lethan'arin]] Wealthiest and most powerful Arin of [[Hal’thalan]], headed by [[Peschbels Parents]], living on the family estate of [[Lethan’naos]].
