# Five Things we know about the plot 💭 ## 1. Lockdown on [[La Graciosa]] During the early 2020 COVID lockdown, Peter becomes unexpectedly trapped on La Graciosa after losing his phone on the ferry. As Spain enters strict stay-at-home orders, he suddenly finds himself isolated in an Airbnb with no means of communication, unable to contact Kathy after their fight, and overwhelmed by the rapid collapse of normality. The island feels tense and claustrophobic: beaches closed, helicopters patrolling, movement heavily restricted. His panic, loneliness, and sensory overload escalate quickly, leaving him desperate for distraction or escape. With no other reading material, he reluctantly reaches for the copy of The Neverending Story that a local girl gave him the night before lockdown began. There, exhausted, drunk, and overstimulated, he reads the book he has always avoided. > [!danger]- Major Spoiler > > A rising Atlantic swell, darkness, and his fragile state culminate in a near-drowning accident that leaves him slipping into unconsciousness. This moment becomes the threshold between worlds: in real life he is found barely alive and later enters a coma, while in the internal narrative he crosses into [[Etral'han💭|Etral’han]] — the world of his own mind trying to heal, confront, and transform him. ## 2. The fatal knowledge and Peter’s impossible choice > [!danger]- Major Spoiler > In the second act, Peter gradually (and unintentionally) gains fragments of forbidden knowledge about the true physics of Relation’in and the ecological balance of Nadlee’han (the quest for the book leads to different pieces of lore containing this knowledge, based on the [[Science and Magic 💭#^c20810|Tractate]]). The Abyssno’i keep this knowledge secret because any outsider who fully understands it becomes an existential threat to the world: knowing how Relation’in works means knowing how to destroy or destabilize the world itself, and knowing how to use this to travel between worlds. > > When the friends travel to the continent to search for “the book that heals the world,” they slowly realize that what they are actually searching for is a scattered, disguised version of the [[Species - Abyssno’i ✅]] [[Science and Magic 💭|Tractate]] — a text containing the principles that govern R-field balance. Once the island enters shutdown mode at the midpoint, the Abyssno’i fear Peter may have acquired too much of this knowledge and attempt to kill him to protect Nadlee’han. [[Godrin ✅]] intervenes and saves him, forcing [[Peter Pankratius Pek|Peter]] into a flight-and-survival arc without understanding why he is being hunted. > > In the All Is Lost beat, Peter finally uncovers the truth: using [[Jezz'ir]] and what he has learned, he *can* return to the real world [[Allist'han✅]]— but doing so will collapse [[Etral'han💭]] entirely. In that moment he realizes he is going to become a father and believes he must choose love for his child over the world where he finally found belonging. He destroys Etral’han for his child and, with the help of the [[Kaiuree ✅|Kaiuree]], tries to return to the real world, only to discover there, he is in a coma and powerless. So with the hope of at least telling his story and this somehow reaching his children, he decides to go back to [[Nadlee'han💭]]. > > This tragedy becomes the emotional core of his Dark Night of the Soul. Later he will learn that the [[Kaiuree'naos]] can “reboot” the world, giving him a second chance — one he will ultimately use through storytelling itself, the missing generative force that the fantasy world has never known.
